Omaha Yoga Notes
(May/June 2008)

Omaha Yoga Notes
With Theresa Murphy

As the earth moves from dormant, still energy to new life and growth, so must her creatures, including us humans. Spring is a great time to clean out. Whether on subtle levels such as new inspirations and ways of thinking to very big life changes, conscious transitions are necessary come spring. We must join in the earth’s dance of rebirth. One great way is to do a dietary cleanse. There are as many ways to do this as there are body types. For the how-tos, one can call on Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, an unending list of other approaches, or just your gut instincts. Omaha is on the map with resources in both Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. In addition to the Four Winds Healing Center which has many Chinese medicine inspired classes and treatments Omaha is blessed with regular visits by two Ayurvedic Doctors, Dr. Rajesh Kotecha (who was in town the first part of April sponsored by Omaha Yoga and Bodyworks) and Alakanada Ma who is visiting the last part of May.
While personal transformation is important as our external environment takes on new form (transitioning from frozen tundra to tulips and green grass), intention for shifting stagnation will always serve our growth as humans. Yogic philosophy holds that evolution of our bodies and minds is not only possible, but necessary. The simple gesture of taking a yoga class for the first time can serve as your springboard to new ways of being. Any workshop, class, studio or teacher can turn you on to new ideas about yourself and your life! The trees are putting forth their buds to turn over new leaves this spring, are you?
